Marley and Me by John Grogan
This is the hilarious and heartwarming true story of a yellow lab and the family who adopts him. If you have dogs of your own, you know what kind of mischief they can get into. While I was reading this book, I often had to laugh out loud, and everyone around me would turn and stare. There was never a dull moment for Marley or his family!

Hate List by Jennifer Brown
This book deals with a sensitive topic and is for more mature readers. Valerie's boyfriend, Nick, shoots several students and teachers at their school, killing some and severely wounding others. Valerie herself is shot in the leg as she tries to stop Nick. However, many people in the community, both parents and students, believe that Valerie must have known about Nick's plans and may have even helped him. Then there is the "hate list," a list that Valerie and Nick kept detailing all of the people who were making their lives miserable, people they would like to see dead. Valerie is torn between guilt, betrayal, grief, and shock, as she returns to school to face everyone again. This is an excellent book with very real characters.
