Scheherezade Scheherezade is Jafar's daughter. She volunteered to marry Shahryar's even though she knew that she would probably be killed as a result. She hoped to save other maidens from a horrible fate and also to save Shahryar himself from his fears. She was able to tell stories each night, for a thousand nights, with enough suspense that Shahryar agreed to let her live another day, until finally she was able to help him change his heart.
Sultan Shahryar Shahryar was betrayed by his wife and brother, and as a result he thinks all women are fickle. He is afraid to fall in love again for fear that his new love will betray him in the same way. Therefore, he comes up with a plan to marry a new wife each day and then kill her after a single night together. This way he can never be betrayed.
Schahzenan Schahzenan is Shahryar's brother. He betrayed Shahryar by having an affair with his wife. He also wants to steal the kingdom from Shahryar.
Storyteller The storyteller in the marketplace becomes a mentor for Scheherezade. He gives her tips on how to tell stories with suspense, humor, and wisdom so that she can keep Shahryar from killing her the way he has killed all of his previous wives.
Aladdin Aladdin is a thief and a rogue who falls in love with Princess Zobeide. He helps Mustappa retrieve a magical lamp from a crevice in the earth and then becomes the master of the genie of the lamp. He also becomes the master of the genie of the ring. Eventually he becomes a decent person and wins the princess's heart.
Princess Zobeide Princess Zobeide is tricked by Aladdin and marries him, believing that he is a real prince. Eventually she finds out the truth but forgives him and falls in love with his true self.
Genie of the Lamp The genie of the lamp is the more powerful of the two genies.
Genie of the Ring The genie of the ring is less powerful than the genie of the lamp but still is able to help Aladdin in his battle against Mustappa.
Aladdin's Mother Aladdin's mother is a thief, a rogue, and a scoundrel. Aladdin implies that he has learned all of his thieving arts from her. She helps him deceive the king so that Aladdin can marry Princess Zobeide.
Sultan Shahryar's Executioner The executioner enjoys his job and is eager to execute Scheherezade as soon as Shahryar gives the command. He eventually joins sides with Schahzenan because he hopes there will be more killing for him to do under his rule.
Ali Baba Ali Baba comes upon Black Coda and his gang of thieves and learns the secret of the chamber, which opens at the command, "Open Sesame." With Morgiana's help, he is eventually able to defeat Black Coda.
Morgiana Morgiana falls in love with Ali Baba. Eventually, she is able to help Ali Baba defeat Black Coda.
Black Coda Black Coda is the leader of a gang of dangerous thieves who hide their treasure in a cavern. When Ali Baba discovers their secret, they try to kill him but are defeated by Ali Baba and Morgiana.
BakBak BakBak is the main character of one of Scheherezade's stories. He is a favorite jester of the sultan. BakBak dies accidentally while dining with some friends. They are afraid of being blamed for his death and so they hide the body. This sets off a hilarious chain of events that becomes BakBak's final joke.
Jafar Jafar is Sultan Shahryar's adviser. He is charged with finding a new wife for the sultan each day. When his daughter, Scheherezade discovers this, she volunteers to marry Shahryar and convinces Jafar to arrange the marriage.
Mustappa Mustappa is an evil magician who seeks power. He enlists Aladdin to help him obtain the lamp which contains a genie but ends up leaving Aladdin in the cavern with the lamp. Eventually he finds Aladdin and tries to get the lamp back but is finally defeated.
