English 1: I gave students a verbal quiz on Mosquito Coast, and then we had our circle discussions. These circle discussions focused on similarities and connections between Okonkwo from Things Fall Apart and Allie Fox from Mosquito Coast, their hero journeys, and their roles as antiheroes.
English 2: Students read independently for 10 minutes. Then I gave a verbal quiz on Chapters 9-13 of Unwind. We had a vocabulary review, and students wrote a sentence for each vocabulary word. Students were assigned Chapters 14-17 of Unwind for tomorrow. English 1: Students calculated reading progress and then finished watching Mosquito Coast.
English 2: Students took an oral reading quiz on Chapters 4-8 of Unwind and then read Chapters 9-13. English 1: Students read independently for 10 minutes and continued to watch Mosquito Coast.

The test on this book will be Tuesday.
English 2: Students read independently for 10 minutes. Then we did a Lazy Editor article from the Scope magazine: Killer Mice. We discussed parallel structure, vocabulary in context, and redundancy. English 1: Students read for 10 minutes and then continued chapter summary presentations for Things Fall Apart. We made it through Chapter 19.
English 2: Students read for 10 minutes. Then we watched a poetry performance, "Touchscreen" by Marshall Davis Jones, on YouTube. Students then completed a poetry analysis for this poem. English 1: Students read for 10 minutes. Then we reviewed Chapters 1-3 of Things Fall Apart. Students began their jigsaw presentations, and we got through Chapters 4-8.
English 2: Students went to the computer lab to type their 3-paragraph essays on the dangers of technology. English 1 and 2: Students read for 10 minutes, and then I introduced Vocabulary 7.
