English 1: We read independently for 10 minutes and then reviewed vocabulary words. I then gave an overview of the major gods and goddesses of Greek mythology in preparation for beginning The Odyssey next week.
English 2: We read independently for 10 minutes and then reviewed vocabulary words. We then had a class discussion of "The Chaser" by John Collier, discussing significant quotes and signposts and how they contributed to the theme of the story. VOCABULARY TEST TOMORROW! English 1: Students typed their constructed response paragraphs for "Lamb to the Slaughter" by Roald Dahl. Then they did a proofreading exercise, made corrections, and submitted final drafts.
English 2: I introduced two more Signposts: "Again and Again" and "Words of the Wiser." Students got into pairs and small groups and read "The Chaser" by John Collier out loud together. Then they discussed signposts and wrote their ideas down in preparation for a discussion tomorrow. English 1: Today we read independently for 10 minutes and recorded reading progress. Then we read and discussed the Graphics Classics versions of Edgar Allan Poe's "Premature Burial" and "Masque of the Red Death."
English 2: Students read independently for 10 minutes and recorded reading progress. Then they finished typing their "Lamb to the Slaughter" constructed responses, proofread them, and handed in final drafts. We also reviewed vocabulary words. Vocabulary Quiz will be Thursday, 10/31/2013. Students read independently for 10 minutes and then finished their constructed response templates for "Lamb to the Slaughter." We also spent 15 minutes reviewing vocabulary. The vocabulary test will be a week from today, 10/31/2013.
Students read independently for 10 minutes. Then they started a constructed response for this prompt: Which picture shows the most interesting interpretation of "Lamb to the Slaughter" by Roald Dahl? They were given six pictures to choose from - the same pictures that they discussed in their Socratic Circle Discussions yesterday. Students will finish their constructed response templates during class tomorrow.
Today we had Socratic Circle discussions regarding "Lamb to the Slaughter" by Roald Dahl and several different pieces of art that were inspired by this story.
Students read independently for 10 minutes and recorded reading progress for the last week. Then I introduced the Vocabulary 3 unit. Students first read sentences containing the vocabulary words and guessed at their meanings using context clues. Then we discussed each new vocabulary word including its definition, its part of speech, and how to use it in a sentence. You can find these words in the Vocabulary Section.
Students read independently for 10 minutes. Then we reviewed vocabulary words, AAAWWUBBIS, and FANBOYS. Then we reviewed the story from yesterday, "Lamb to the Slaughter" by Roald Dahl, and students completed a series of essay questions about the story.
